Music News: NSAI/CMT Song Contest Winner Gets Advice On Becoming Big & Rich

John Rich has said he considered himself a two-time loser. He had been fired from the country band Lonestar, and did a solo project that never took off. A few years later, he is part of the mega-successful Big & Rich (www.bigandrich.com) and, with cuts by many other artists, was just named ASCAP Songwriter/Artist of the Year for the third consecutive year. Rich recently gave a mentoring session to the winner of last year’s NSAI/CMT Song Contest, Charlie Worsham (charlieworsham.com). During the session at NSAI, Worsham and John played songs for each other and talked about Worsham's new band King Billy. The 8th Annual NSAI/CMT Contest is underway (nsai.cmt.com), with an entry deadline of November 15. This year's winner will have a mentoring session with each of the following songwriters: Dave Berg ("Stupid Boy" – Keith Urban), Jim Peterik ("Eye Of The Tiger" – Survivor) and Matt Scannell ("Everything You Want" – Vertical Horizon).
