What Are Cookies?

A cookie is a small file which requests permission to be stored on your computer’s hard drive. Once agreed to, the file is stored. A cookie can be used for many purposes including:
  • As a part of Web Traffic Analysis
  • Session Tracking
  • Customizing Content
Cookies help us to provide you with a better website, by enabling us to monitor which pages interest you and which do not. A cookie does not give us access to your computer, or any information about you, other than the data you choose to share with us.

Managing Cookies

Cookies Settings You can choose to accept or decline cookies. Many web browsers are configured to automatically accept cookies, but you can normally modify your browser settings to decline cookies if you so wish. This may mean some site features (such as the shopping cart) may not work or will prevent you from taking full advantage of other website features. Songstuff uses tracking cookies in order to identify user sessions and session state. This includes shopping cart capability and community options. Site analytics are maintained using Google Analytics. We use a session cookie to remember your log-in for you and what you’ve put in the shopping basket. These we deem strictly necessary to the working of the website. If these are disabled then various functionality on the site will be broken. We use this data to prevent hacking attempts, help us know what web browsers people are using, and find out where our visitors are coming from so that we can improve our marketing. Non-user specific information is also gathered to build a demographic of Songstuff site visitors for presentation to potential advertisers/sponsors. Fundamentally, to provide basic Songstuff membership for free, we have to attract advertisers/sponsors to help meet our running costs. If you don’t want to receive cookies, you can modify your browser so that it notifies you when cookies are sent to it or you can refuse cookies altogether. You can also delete cookies that have already been set. If you wish to restrict or block web browser cookies which are set on your device then you can do this through your browser settings; the Help function within your browser should tell you how. Alternatively, you may wish to visit www.aboutcookies.org, which contains comprehensive information on how to do this on a wide variety of desktop browsers. You can choose whether to accept cookies that are set by the Songstuff and their suppliers, on the cookie settings page. Most Songstuff websites do work without cookies, but you will lose some features and functionality if you choose to disable cookies. You can find more examples of Songstuff functionality and services which require cookies to be set in Songstuff & Cookies.

Adobe Flash Player Cookies

The Adobe Flash Player, used to provide services such as iPlayer or web-based games, is also capable of storing information on your device. However, these cookies cannot be controlled through your web browser. Some web browser manufacturers are developing solutions to allow you to control these through your browser, but at the present time, if you wish to restrict or block Flash Cookies, then you must do this on the Adobe website. Please be aware that restricting the use of Flash Cookies may affect the features available to you.
