Tom Hoffman

Tom HoffmanBackground

Tom Hoffman (aka tunesmithth) began playing drums at age 13. Seven months later he joined his first band. From that moment on, he was hooked! By age 15, he was functioning in a dual capacity…drummer and singer.
At age 19, he became one of the founding members of the St. Louis band “Nickels”. http://www.stlmusicyesterdays.com/Nickels.htm
The band was a fixture throughout the local club circuit and was afforded the opportunity to open for numerous national groups. At age 22, for personal reasons, Tom left Nickels, sold all his equipment and quit playing altogether.
Despite efforts to the contrary, Tom never lost the itch to play an active part in music. By age 40, he was looking to scratch that itch. He was interested in a different type of musical involvement this time. Not performance….. writing! He’d always craved more involvement in the creative end of things. There was however, a small problem. Simply put, he lacked all of the skills, knowledge and equipment necessary to make it happen. Fortunately, those weren’t insurmountable obstacles. Over the next 2 years, he went about the task of addressing his many musical shortcomings. By age 42 he had achieved reasonable competence as a drummer, guitarist and bass player. He had also managed to acquire a fundamental knowledge of music theory & home recording techniques.
Tom Hoffman (Tunesmith)For the past 18+ years Tom has pursued his passion as an amateur singer-songwriter-musician. He holds copyrights on approximately 100 fully arranged, recorded songs and continues to do virtually everything himself. In recent years, many of his songs have achieved recognition in international writing contests. He’s been a finalist, a 6-time semi-finalist and a runner-up. For anyone interested, the following link contains a detailed breakdown of those contest results. Tunesmith Awards.
