Steve Mueske

Background

Steve Mueske started playing guitar at age 8, took lessons for five years, then became an autodidact thereafter. Throughout his teen years, he wrote and practiced about eight hours a day. His first demo surfaced in 1986 with the band Martyred Angel. In 1987, he recorded a demo with ex-Raven Bitch members Greg Kalember and Mike Kalember that briefly got the attention of underground metal zines and radio stations in Belgium and England. In 1989, he hooked up with ex-Raven Bitch vocalist Dan Witt and rounded out the line-up of Scarlet Winter with bassist John Vogels and drummer Mark Adamany. They played throughout the American Midwest, selling out mid-size clubs and playing small theaters and the Waukesha Expo Center. Following the collapse of this band, he grabbed drummer Mike Wallace and bassist Brian Dwyer to form Kingsrath. They played only three shows. Waking up one morning, he realized that his shoes were held together with duct-tape, he owned nothing to speak of, and couldn't pay the rent. So he gave up playing shows and recording and went to school to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in English and minoring in Philosophy, then went on to earn a Masters degree in Writing. Since then he's had two books of poetry published and owns and operates a small poetry press.

Following graduation, he and his wife purchased a house for their growing family. Over the next six years, he slowly put together a home studio, funding it with work designing websites. He wanted to do something completely different, musically, than what he'd done in the past, turning to electronic music as a source of creative energy. In September, 2008, he released an independent CD of music recorded between 2002 and 2008 in his studio Thought Farm. The CD is called Hello Cruel World and features 8 instrumental tracks of music that he likes to call "aural painting." He joined the staff of Songstuff in January of 2008, where he moderates several forums and writes software review articles.
